With nearly 300 delegates from as far as British Columbia and the Maritimes, the 16th annual First Nations Housing Conference was a big success! The conference, which first started with a small workshop coordinated by Shibogama First Nations Council for its member communities, has grown into the largest First Nations housing event in the country. Over the three-day event, workshops included building code updates, project management, construction tendering, and fire safety awareness. As with previous years, home improvement expert, Jon Eakes, hosted the builders challenge, which covered best practices in window installation. The tradeshow was the largest ever as well with over 50 booths which allowed delegates to connect with suppliers, contractors, and service providers. Lastly of special note, congratulations to Wunnumin Lake First Nation, one of three communities that received a Community Housing Recognition Award. Randy Wabasse, Housing Coordinator, accepted the award on the First Nation's behalf.
